National Healthcare Recruiter Recognition Day
Although they may not interact with patients directly, health care recruitment professionals play an integral role in making sure medical patients throughout the United States are receiving the important care that they need. Since 1991, the first Tuesday in June has been recognized as National Health Care Recruiter Recognition Day. While we may be biased, we feel that Supplemental Health Care has the finest recruiting professionals anywhere. In honor of Health Care Recruiter Recognition Day, let’s shine the light on two of our finest recruitment professionals.
Health Care Recruiter Day Spotlight: Jim Burris
After completing his service in the United States Marine Corp Infantry, Jim Burris was ready to start a new career. Both his mother and a family friend worked for Supplemental Health Care, and they convinced Jim that he should join the SHC team in the Dallas / Fort Worth office. He started as a recruiter in 2011 and has never looked back since.
“I really enjoy my job,” he says. “It’s a great feeling to be able to help people find and then offer them a great career opportunity every day!”
For Jim, it is important to have a career where he gets to build relationships with people, find common ground with job candidates and build a rapport. He enjoys helping others overcome challenges that they are having in their careers and solving problems by helping others find an opportunity. Since 2011, Jim has been successful and has moved up the ranks to become a Senior Recruiter. He spends time mentoring other recruiters and staffing managers about what it takes to be a successful recruiter.
“I tell them that the key to being successful as a recruiter, is the same as it is for any other job,” he explains. “It’s about being genuine with people, being honest. The individuals you are trying to recruit will see right through you if you're not genuine with them. You have to build trust and educate them about how you can help them solve their problems.”
When he’s not on the job, Jim enjoys hanging out with friends from the office. He is working on improving his Bowling game and keeps his love for baseball alive by playing in a softball league. He will also tell you that he is a big Texas Rangers fan, and is hoping they turn their season around pretty quickly!
Health Care Recruiter Day Spotlight: Steve Grieco
Steve Grieco is fast approaching his one year anniversary with Supplemental Health Care. Before coming on board as a Recruiting Manager in the Travel Division’s Buffalo New York office, Steve worked at a private High School as an Athletic Director and before that Director of Enrollment. It was a natural transition to move from helping students develop and find their right path in life to offering health care professionals new career opportunities.
Steve explains why recruiting is such a great fit for him professionally, “I love meeting new people, talking with them about what they are looking for and then helping them advance their career.”
A personal family situation has given Steve extra motivation when he is recruiting for Natal-Intensive Care Unit nurses. His three children were all born extremely premature.
“I feel like I owe it to these amazing nurses for their help in not only treating my children but also helping my wife and through it,” he explains. “We are very involved with the local NICU’s, and I feel we have a really strong connection with them.”
When he isn’t working, it is all family time for the Grieco clan! Steve enjoys hanging out with his wife and three children boating in the summer time and snowmobiling in the winter months. He also enjoys getting out onto the ball diamond when he gets the chance! To us, it sounds like he has hit a home run in both his career and his family!
