National Nursing Assistant Week 2017
Beginning today, June 15th, our nation will recognize the efforts and contributions of a very special group of healthcare professionals, Certified Nursing Assistants or CNAs. Every day, nearly 2.5 million CNAs provide compassion and care to frail, elderly, chronically ill and others in nursing homes and long-term care settings. CNAs embody what it means to be the ‘Face of Caring,' and now through June 22nd, we are encouraged to say thank you through various Nursing Assistant Week events and activities.
CNAs provide basic quality of life care to patients of all ages in a variety of healthcare settings. Nursing assistants have daily contact and interactions with their patients and often serve as the eyes and ears of nurses, LPNs, and physicians. The demand for nursing assistants is expected to continue growing at higher than average rates, mainly due to an aging population where CNAs are the primary caregivers. After all, 10,000 baby boomers are turning 65 each and every day.
Nursing Assistant Week has been a formal recognition for 40 years, and the celebration events will vary from facility to facility. There may be special breakfasts, lunches or even gatherings outside of the workplace, and all of these are wonderful ways to express gratitude for the work CNAs perform. However, more importantly, is to take an opportunity to publicize the critical work that these direct caregivers provide by involving community leaders, legislators, and other public officials in CNA events.
From all of us here at Supplemental Health Care, we say thank you to the wonderful women and men who have chosen a career of caring for others and who are working so hard to make the lives of those in need better.
We are looking for your ideas on how we can all celebrate nursing assistants this week and throughout the year. Please share your thoughts in the comment section below and tell us what your favorite recognition activity. You can also join the conversation by leaving a comment on our Facebook page.
