Nurses Need Balance Between Caring for Others and Self
As National Nurses Week winds to a close on May 12th, this week’s theme of Balancing Mind, Body, and Spirit should carry on throughout the year. The American Nurses Association is recognizing the importance of promoting Nurse’s Health and Wellness Issues through their awareness campaign, “Year of the Healthy Nurse.” We have been tracking each monthly health and wellness topic in this space, so please keep checking back for more information.
As a nursing professional, we know that you go above and beyond to care for your patient and also to provide them with timely advice and information about how they can contribute to their own health and well-being. We also know that in the hectic day-to-day, you sometimes might take your own health for granted. The Nurses Week theme, “The Balance of Mind, Body, and Spirit” is a perfect reminder that to stay at the top of our game for those we serve, we have to find that life balance to ensure our own wellness.
The reasons for seeking that balance are many, including the need to stay healthy and continue fulfilling obligations at home and at work. Studies have shown that overall nurses are satisfied with their career choice, but outside factors such as stress continue to be a factor. The best way for anyone to combat stress and other work-life conflict is to take self-care seriously.
Supplemental Health Care is fully engaged in the health and well-being of our nursing professionals. One way we have supported this effort is through an increased effort to provide you with relevant work-life balance content over all of our communication platforms. We have published content about combatting stress, finding balance, and many other articles with tips for staying fit and eating healthy.
We also know that where you are working plays a role in your job satisfaction and how you feel about yourself. We are supporting all of our talented healthcare professionals through our industry-best Supplemental Advantages. This package of benefits is designed to give you the peace of mind to focus on your career and the care you are providing your patients. Our team of professionals is there to find you the perfect job fit to suit your needs, and our Supplemental Advantages answer any lingering questions about insurance, continuing education, retirement plans, and more.
You are important to your family, your friends, your patients, and to us. Hopefully, this week you have had an opportunity to consider how balancing your mind, body, and spirit will contribute to your life and career. If you haven’t, promise yourself that you will carve out the time for a little self-reflection about things that you can do for your own physical and mental well-being. After all, it is still the Year of the Healthy Nurse and the changes you make now, can carry over into next year and beyond. Be well, be healthy, and thank you for choosing your career as a healthcare professional.
